    Frequently Asked Questions

How long has SmartStraps been in business?

SmartStraps has been in business since its launch in 2004. It is the inaugural brand of Winston Products, LLC, an innovative product development company that is home to several other brands in the automotive, lawn & garden, and home industries.

How do I thread ratchet straps?

Please refer to our instructional and how-to videos here. Be sure to also review the instructions that come with your purchased product and follow each step carefully.

How do I secure my load with ratchet straps?

To properly and safely secure your load with ratchet straps:

    • First determine your load weight (the thing you are hauling – i.e. a vehicle, toolbox, cooler, etc.)
    • Find an appropriate anchor point for the load being used
    • Find an appropriate location on the load where you can tie it down/over
    • Hook both ends of the ratchet accordingly to your determined locations, being careful to avoid sharp edges and hot objects
    • Feed ratchet strap and tighten them, making sure to have at least 3 revolutions of webbing around the center axle of the ratchet

*You must check that your load is in accordance with ratchet warnings and time/distance recommendations that are given on the product’s warning tag.

*The customer is responsible for the security of their own load and the application of our product is beyond the control of Winston Products, LLC. Please see product Warning Tag for more details.

Where else can I purchase SmartStraps products?

Our products are available online and in stores at retailers like AutoZone, Canadian Tire, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Northern Tool + Equipment, Tractor Supply Company, and Walmart. They can also be purchased on Amazon.com via our brand store. Please check specific retailers for product availability.

What type of materials are the straps made of?

Most of our ratchet straps are made with high-quality, polyester webbing.

Do the straps weaken due to the sun / weather?

Our straps are made with UV-resistant polyester webbing, though it should be noted that no fabric is totally immune from sun or weather degradation. Sun-faded webbing should still meet intended break strength requirements. However, visually damaged, abraded, worn or frayed webbing means the product could be unsafe to use and the ratchet should be disposed of and replaced.

Does this product have any type of warranty?

SmartStraps may extend a limited warranty that varies according to product type. To get more information regarding a warranty policy for a specific item, please contact us.

What country are these made in?

Our products are designed in the United States and we work to source them in multiple countries. We visit factories and maintain deep relationships with our manufacturing partners in Cambodia, China, Thailand, and Vietnam.
