Is the 12&quot; length the length of the strap alone or does it include the hook body on either end?

I purchased a 48&quot; at LOWS. All most perfect. I have an RV with slide out trays in the &quot;basement&quot;. The storage containers require 43 to 45 length. Most likely the 43 would be better, when stretched to secure the load. The flat feature is best!
